I am a hedonist dazzled by all the wonders of the world. I want to eat and swim and frolic in knowledge. I love how many perspectives there are among us. I am young in my practice and still exploring; I am constantly changing and growing as an artist.
I have worked in Printmaking, Ceramics, Textile, Film, Installation, and Performance. Exploring many mediums has enabled me to discover my love of both large-scale installation and small-scale printmaking. My installations use textured fabric, scent and video to create experiential environments that encourage active audience reflection. My printmaking and bookmaking use a similar whimsical style—exploring themes of feminism and social activism with childlike wonder by using bright colors, playful lines and everyday materials.
I also like a challenge. I involve my life, and how I would like to improve myself, in the work. I design projects to get me out of my comfort zone. I made 365 books in one year, then found strangers to give them to, a day at a time, for the next year. I would go up to someone and ask them for their autograph - and if they agreed and signed my book, I would give them the book for that day and a note of explanation. I got many rejections and blank stares, but also got into many great conversations.
I want to engage people and inspire them. I want everyone to feel that they are artists, and to put artistic thought into the places they spend their lives in.
